Who doesn't want to be a senior for once in their life and show some attitude for gaining such position?? A position gained after years of hard work in passing out the classes and finally being one of the seniors of college is one of the exhilarating experience for all those seniors who are "bad guys" . With the term "bad guys" I mean those people who indulge in unasked for activities such as - ragging the juniors, tearing down the benches, getting involved in college politics to the extent of using firearms and buttering up the influential people now and again. In short Bad guys are those who have the hand in getting us holidays for no reason such as public holiday at all. In my case I am ready to use the term "bad girls" who do the same in girls college where I study.
I forgot to mention that the experience and its influence is felt by the decent people too. But they are different from the others because they know how to avoid trouble and show the seniority to a certain extent. During my 4 years in my college I never came across a senior who tried to show bad seniority to me or my group for certain reasons such as-
1) My group stayed in background.
2) My group was influential enough to report the matter to the Chief Proctor of College because I knew her.
3) One of my friend's sister is the Lecturer in college.
4) The students in college never recognized each other as senior or junior since its difficult to point them out.
5) We always faked we are the seniors whenever someone tried to be shirty with us.
I have been meeting my classmates who are decent enough to give a damn to the fact that they are seniors and I met some today who are under the category of "bad girls". I have drawn a line to the extent of my mixing up with the bad girls group so our meeting is "Hi" and "Hello" and certain snatches of conversation which involved the words that I blush furiously to think of and embarrassed enough to mention here.
People might be reading and thinking that why am I wasting words when they already know what's what in their senior year, but you see I am just laying down the foundation of two experiences I have had with regard to seniority in past 3 days.
First of all you people should know that I look younger than I actually am which resulted in the first incidence. The whole thing started in the Staff Room of English department. The juniors were getting their forms signed by the Incharge and I was being rebuked by other teachers for my bad performance. The juniors thought I was their junior and tried to pick on me after i left the room. But unfortunately for them one of the teacher's turned up to ask the release date of Harry Potter(she is Harry Potter buff and i made my project under her supervision) and the juniors had to go away. The teacher understood the problem I might face told the girls that I was a senior and if they came to me with the hopes of getting some help in their subject I might help them if they asked decently. Now that made my day after a terrible start I had in staff room and was on point of blubbering out at home in my bathroom the first thing I might have done on reaching home. But the gobsmacked looks on their faces was enough for me to forget all about it.
The other incident took place today itself when I was standing in 10 feet long line of students while depositing our fees. We all worked hard (changing positions and relieving the aching foot and stuff You know people do while standing) for quarter an hour and I got the chance to submit my fees finally. But another girl turned up who was in my year and shoved her hand inside the window and that act was enough to flare one up. You see when a person is frustrated, patient and miserable all at once then no one should cross him/her. Well the juniors protested the girl's act of cutting the line and i told her off for showing her seniority somewhere else but not here since i was her age and the other stuff. But still the girl had her fees submitted and told them to shove their hands too if they have any problems and threatened the girls to see them outside the college. The girl didn't say anything to me because she knew me and she knows now that i will be out looking for her and will be giving her a piece of my mind. I told the juniors to remember my name (Thank Goodness I din't made them learn it since my name is memorable, all they had to do was remember Jagjit Singh) and if any kind of trouble is aroused they can approach me or my fellow students in a certain class and they are sure to get help.
There is a way of showing Seniority to the juniors and people should know it how to because their negligence in certain ways lead to bad impressions and bad relationships between seniors and juniors. Just considering the Juniors for once as humans or remembering the times when we were once juniors and how we might have looked in that position is no big deal, and changing the outlook of seniority for the sake of name of college and country will be a best step taken by the young generation. Ragging done in a decent way so as not to make a junior feel so haunted to commit suicide will never be appreciated. Though it is banned but some people still do it because their hands itch after getting the promotion in senior most year of the college. Well it can not be avoided but people can try on that part i guess....
